Applied Plastics Names Brian Hanley President as Barrett Transitions

Applied Plastics appointed Brian Hanley as president, the PTFE coating specialist said on August 13, 2026. Tom Barrett will remain chief executive through the end of 2026, and the two will work together on the handoff.

Hanley brings more than 20 years in interventional and advanced surgical devices. Medical Product Outsourcing reported that he most recently worked at Resonetics. Applied Plastics said he will further the company's PTFE Natural coating platform, which is used on mandrels, hypotubes, and other forming tools.

Why it matters for medical device supply chains:
PTFE-coated mandrels and hypotubes are a short list of qualified vendors for catheter extrusion, fuse welding, and tipping. Applied Plastics is one of the names on that list. A president hire from Resonetics, a much larger micro-manufacturing group, is a signal that the coating shop is professionalizing commercial leadership while Barrett stays on through year-end.

What to watch:
Barrett remaining CEO through December 2026 means the operating relationship most customers have is unchanged for now. The useful question on the next call is how Hanley splits time between the coating platform and customer-facing work, and whether lead times or new coating SKUs follow the hire.
